jfbat10:39am: Yule Circle/Party Alert!
FK and I are hosting our annual Yule Circle and holiday party at our place in Rego Park, Queens, NYC on Saturday, December 15. The circle will begin at 5pm, the party will get going at 7pm. You may show up for one, or the other or both, but keep in mind that if you’re there for the circle, be prepared to participate: spirituality is not a spectator sport.

Please RSVP ASAP so we know how many folks to expect. Send an email to jf_bat@yahoodotcom or faekitty@yahoodotcom, and we’ll send you instructions on how to get to our house. You MUST RSVP if you intend to come (if you’re bringing a group, you may RSVP for everyone.)

Bring food and/or drink. (Bat is making beer for the occasion! Gallons and gallons of it!)

Bring a prezzie for the grab bag. (Bring one per person if you're coming with a group.)

sprockey1:11pm: Animal symbology
I've been reading up alot lately on animal imagery in medieval folklore and hagiography. Now, as if to top this burst of enthusiasm off, they're hanging up a 16th century tapestry at work, depicting myriad flora and fauna of "the new world."

The image has doggish squirrels, a lion, and some sort of weird gazelle-ish deer, surrounded by thick jungle leaves, all bunched up together, drawn by people who'd clearly never seen the particular species they were trying to capture.

These animals must have seemed so exotic to them, like aliens.

Anyway, I've just been thinking how amazing the power of animal imagery is. It has captured man's imagination and resonated in his soul since the very get-go. Sometimes they're chattel, sometimes they're sacred, but they're always in our stories - being all archetypical and such.

The power of animal symbology blows my mind when I try to wrap my brain around it.

Then there's us furries - thousands of people who, for some reason or another, felt strongly enough about a particular animal to identify with it personally. It's pretty amazing to be part of that.

Being a dog makes me feel, ironically, more human.

sprockey10:25am: *powers up the electrodes* CLEAR!
This community's been mostly dead for a while now.

In an effort to jump-start it, I'd like to ask you all what brought you here in the first place, or, if you please, what brought you to furry.

What does furry spirituality mean to you? How does it play into your every day life? What's your favorite color? Mine's Orange.

Say anything.

Ready, GO!

sprockey10:28pm: The Mouse Problem
Everyone and their mother has already seen this, but it's funny, relevant to furry lifestylers, and thanks to YouTube, very easily accessible. So, for the edification of those who have not seen it, and for the amusement of those who already have...

Monty Python's "The Mouse Problem" sketch.

I know lots of folks who have strong personal connections to this sketch because it articulated what furrydom meant to them even before there was a proper fandom. Does anyone have any experiences like that that they would like to share?

Personally, I wasn't exposed to this particular sketch until after I found furry, so my connection to it is not as deep. As a kid, my drug of choice was the "Shaggy Dog" movie, (amongst others). You take what you can get.

gavinfox11:48am: Its been a while since I've posted anything personal to any therian/otherkin/were journals, so I thought I would do so now, cause I've been talking to some people online, and I've rediscovered how interesting it is to chat with weres and therians online. This got me to thinking -- has anyone, like me, ever had the experience of being strongly attracted to, and getting along very well with, similar species of therians? I am very very attracted to canid therians, foxes, wolves, dogs and such, and I've had some experiences with them that have me reaching states of mind with them that I was not able to reach with anyone else. Has anyone had an experience like that? I would love to chat with some therians and otherkin, especially those that have very strong nonhuman experiences.. I miss that state of mind, for I haven't had a real shift in quite some time (been so involved in normal life it just hasnt come up), and I would like talk. IM me at Gavinfoxx on AIM or Yahoo sometime, I'm almost always on, even if I'm away from the computer. Also, I'm in to Kentucky, and would especially like to talk with KY weres and therians, or people who come to kentucky fairly often. Thanks, and hope to hear from you soon!

apotheosiswolf1:07pm: Don't kill me... Please.
Excuse the melodrama in the subject, but I very rarely post to public forums/communities because I have an annoying habit of getting shot down even if what I gotta say falls within the community parameters.

Anyhoo.. Short and sweet. A resoure that may or may not be of interest to the spiritually inclined amongst furries is a book called "The Art of Shapeshifting" by Ted Andrews, ISBN 1-888767-32-4, and you can get a sneak peek at

http://dragonhawkpublishing.com/shapeshifting.htm

The book's got a dozen excercises, and while the book doesn't teach zoomorphing (no surprise there), he does cover auric shapeshifing, dream shifting and personification which looks like a form of invocation... Which, yes, is a gross generalization.

Anyways, if this is of use or interest to folks, great, if not, feel free to ignore this.

kinfo1:56pm: Final Survey
Good afternoon or what have you.

It has been a while since I have posted here though I have enjoyed reading the various thoughtful and interesting posts that have been offered since.

First of all, thank you all for the responses I have received to date. I have spent months compiling and working through the information collected from my last surveys numbering nearly 400 responses. The amount of assistance has been overwhelming and I am incredibly happy to see such a high level of support.

I also apologize for the level of crossposting but I do wish to get as many of the livejournal communities as I may for there are individuals who belong to only one or another but do not have huge mass membership.

Following is the last survey that I will need for my work. The questions are slightly broader in scope and several will require some thought. There is reason behind each and every one. I have spent the last month and a bit fine tuning the survey and adding questions after conferring with a number of very wise people (both otherkin and human).

I have had some strong interest in the book from several publishers and I am currently looking into which will offer the best price to the buyer as well as the widest possible distribution.

You may answer the survey here OR you may email it directly to kinresearch@gmail.com if you wish to keep your answers private. Information is not shared beyond the core research unless you answer the "bonus" question.

mikonkumori9:45pm: HI, Mikon Kumori. I'm looking for a few new den mates (2-3) to share a 4 bed 1 bath ranch style home. It has a full heated basement, with fire place, large back and front yard. Its located in a country/urban setting in a small town named Potsdam NY. (no not the city, nor anywhere near the it). I am asking for $300 a month with everything included (cable internet, free long distance. hardwood floors and baseboard heat) all rooms have internet and cable access.

For jobs we have retail, and food service a few industrial jobs, and there are 2 temp agency in the area as well. There are more than ample jobs in the area if you are willing to look.

The local area has many things to offer, movie theater, plenty of bars, lots of restaurants/ fast food places (Italian, Oriental, pizza places, Indian, Mexican, and a dinner), lan gaming center, gaming shop, ice skating arena, SCA (mid evil renactment group), we also has a small beach. a few historical sites, many paranormal areas, and we do have a small fur community, but we find more all the time..

kikenseishin11:46pm: Rant: Furs and Sex
What is it with most furs and sex? Are these peoples lives so boring and worthless that their primary thought is sex and how they can obtain it? Maybe they dont care about the health ramifications or the emotional scares in which they inflict on others, or themselves. Perhaps they think just because their fursonas are clean and pure, that nothing bad will happen. News flash people. Everything you do in real life effects your fur life and the same goes with your fur life. News was given to me about a fur at anthro con that was HIV positive trying and succeeding at haveing sex with everyone he can find. He had no care of the people he was infecting, as long as he had sex. I personally because of these people will never have sex with any fur at a con or meet unless I'm mated to them. If I find or see any furs that are abuseing, infecting, or any other hainess act turd another. I will personally DEAL with them in my own unique fashion of justis.
